Keep Moving Forward

It’s April 8, and Day 23 of Shelter in Place

In case you were wondering, I didn’t make it up. It was first expressed most eloquently by the great Martin Luther King Jr.:

If you can’t fly, then run,
If you can’t run, then walk,
If you can’t walk, then crawl,
but whatever you do,
you have to Keep Moving Forward.

Think for a moment what that means in your life. Quite suddenly, we have needed to adjust to a new way of living. We’ve needed to find new ways to work toward our goals.

Pay attention: Your goals have not changed.

You still want your children to grow up to be focused, disciplined, and confident. You still want to be healthy and fit for a long time.
You still want a better life for the next generation.

  • Is grocery shopping for healthy food less convenient that before? YES!
  • Is it harder to find ways for your kid to socialize and develop friendships? YES!
  • Is making sure your child continues to learn and grow both academically and in the martial arts more difficult than before? YES!

All of these are true. Yes, it isn’t as easy as it was before. Yet, why should that even matter to you?

Ask yourself: Do you give up because it stops being easy? Do you quit because it now takes more effort or more time? What is the example you want to set for your children?

I can tell you that for my family, our goals have stayed concrete - just the methods have changed. My kids continue their school on Zoom from 8 am to 3:30 pm daily. My daughter trains in volleyball by herself instead of with her team for two hours after school. She practices viola and meets her instructor over FaceTime for lessons. My son studies chess tactics and works with his coach over Skype. He practices martial arts on the punching bag in our backyard daily. We have literally quit nothing

Because we haven’t quit our goals.

Keep Moving Forward, people.
