It’s April 22, and Day 37 of Shelter in Place

“Grandpa, is it true that when you were a kid, there was a pandemic?”

Imagine the stories our children will be able to tell one day. They are living through a global crisis that will take its place in the history books.

We are experiencing all ranges of emotion, not the least of which is fear. Fear can paralyze us, or it can drive us to action. It can even give birth to heroism. Remember that there will eventually be an end to this crisis, and humanity will claim victory over COVID-19 one day.

In the meantime, we can celebrate our incremental gains. It is worth noting that in California, as a result of the cooperation of its citizens, we are winning.  The curve has been flattening for us, as evidenced by comparing our fatality rates to worser-case scenarios:

In New York for example, there have been 76.2 deaths per every 100,000 people. In California, there have been just 3.3 fatalities per 100,000.

We aren’t out of the woods yet, but the data shows that what we are doing is working and it is saving lives. I feel proud of my fellow Californians.

We may need to continue fighting a bit longer yet, but in the meantime my fellow instructors and I will keep providing you with an amazing online martial arts program to get you to your goals. Remember that if you plan to promote to your next belt rank tomorrow, you need to sign up for a belt exam between April 27 and May 3.

Keep Moving Forward!
